Our Story
Fifteen years ago, I was a mother to a beautiful 10-month-old baby girl and expecting my second baby girl. Money was incredibly tight, and even basic necessities felt out of reach.
I had always loved fashion, but I also believed that baby products should be practical, comfortable, and beautiful. Since I could not afford the luxurious baby items I admired, I decided to create them myself.
I bought a refurbished sewing machine and taught myself how to sew.
During my pregnancy, I designed what would become our signature hooded towel. I made a few for my own babies and several more for friends. Soon afterward, I began designing stroller liners, minky blankets, and other beautiful, functional pieces.
At the time, I had no intention of starting a business. My dream was simply to be a stay-at-home mother—the most rewarding and exciting job in the world. But life had other plans.
Personal circumstances placed me in survival mode, and I desperately needed a way to support my family. I began turning my designs and newly learned sewing skills into a business.
What started from necessity slowly became a dream I never knew I had.
I worked from a small one-bedroom apartment with two little babies beside me. I sewed day and night, filling every order between feedings, bedtime routines, and everything motherhood required. After two C-sections, exhaustion, and countless difficult days, nothing could stop me. Mama bear was in full force. I was determined to survive emotionally, financially, and personally.
About three years after this journey began, I found myself raising three beautiful children as a single mother—my two princesses and the tiny little prince who completed my life.
That chapter changed everything.
I made a promise to myself that no person and no circumstance would keep me down. I would do whatever it took to build a secure and beautiful life for my children. That was when I decided to take Winx+Blinx to the next level.
The dream of being a traditional stay-at-home mom may not have unfolded the way I imagined, but motherhood helped me discover dreams and strengths I never knew I possessed.
The road was not easy. My children grew up watching an exhausted, overworked mother who rarely stopped. I designed, sewed, packed, shipped, answered customers, carried heavy boxes, and prepared orders until four in the morning. Some nights I slept only a few hours before waking up to care for my children and begin again.
I do not romanticize those years. They were incredibly hard.
But through it all, I did everything possible to remain present for my children while also keeping Winx+Blinx alive. I learned firsthand what it means to be resilient, determined, and powerful.
For years, I handled almost every part of the company myself—from designing and sewing to packaging, shipping, customer service, and retailer relationships.
Then my uncle, one of my greatest supporters and truly my guardian angel, helped build a large shed behind my home in Brooklyn, New York. It became the first dedicated space for Winx+Blinx outside of my home. Seeing the business move into its own little space felt surreal. Hiring my first employee felt even more unbelievable.
I was also surrounded by incredible support from family and friends—support I will never forget or take for granted.
When the COVID-19 pandemic began and my children were home from school, stopping was not an option. I rented a larger space around the corner from my house and created a new fulfillment center. It allowed me to continue operating the business while remaining close enough to care for my children.
After the pandemic, I realized how quickly they were growing and how much I was missing. Survival mode had turned me into a workaholic, and I knew something needed to change.
I took a tremendous leap of faith.
I kept the business operation in New York, but moved with my children to Florida. I wanted to step away from the constant survival mentality and give them more of my time, attention, and presence.
It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Today, Winx+Blinx products are sold by retailers around the world, and families everywhere enjoy the soft, luxurious pieces that began at a sewing machine in my small apartment.
Not a day goes by that I am not amazed by how far we have come.
I never thought of myself as a businesswoman. I never planned to become one. But here I am—a mother, a designer, a fighter, a survivor, and the founder of Winx+Blinx.
I will forever be grateful to all my loyal customers, my family & friends who believed in me, supported me, and helped carry me through the hardest chapters.
Above and beyond, I remain in awe of my mom and dad, and my aunt and uncle, who never allowed me to completely break down. They believed in me during the moments when I struggled to believe in myself, pushed me forward when I felt I had nothing left to give, and helped me become the woman and business owner I am today. Their love, strength, and unwavering support are gifts I will never take for granted.
And to my incredible husband, Sam Jacobs, who fell in love with me and chose to join this crazy journey—thank you for standing beside me, joining forces with me, and giving me what no one else ever could. You are my rock, my happiness, and my everything.
Most of all, I am grateful to my children.
Because of them, I found my strength.
Because of them, I kept going.
And because of them, I became the woman I am today.
With love,
Michal
